In summer 2007 thepiratebay.org (TPB), everyone’s favorite torrent stop shop announced they’d be starting up a video on demand site with the domain name, thepiratecity.org. Mirroring youtubue.com without the DMCA takedown bans, Pirate City was speculated to begin streaming online video in conjunction with the 30th birthday of Brokep, TPB’s founder, Peter Sunde.

Pirate City is now up with many of movies and television programs in decent quality available to watch instantaneously with no downloads. CHECK IT OUT. But, the site is an imposter. It is in no way related to TPB.

Techcrunch ran with the story, as did a few other high profile sites. But, all is not as it seems, and thanks to a nice piece of investigative journalism over at NewTeeVee, it has been revealed that not only does The Pirate City have nothing to do with The Pirate Bay (as confirmed by Brokep himself), but that the tipster is actually the person behind the imposting site.

Personally, I think if anything Pirate Bay is amused it got pirated.
